A holistic approach is a form of treatment that takes into account all aspects of health and wellbeing. A holistic definition of health would include a balanced approach to healing the mind, body, and spirit using traditional and alternative healing techniques, in order to achieve optimal health for the entire body.
This holistic approach to healing focuses on preventive medicine, which means we take care of our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being before we become ill. On the other hand, standard medicine focuses on the subsequent treatment of the disease.
The overall definition of health can be quite broad, and one person’s definition may differ from another. As a result, not everyone will agree on what the definition of holistic health is, but this is where the most popular forms of holistic healing come from.
When it comes to general health, there are several basic concepts that are widely followed and practiced. By maintaining the health of these vital elements now, we reduce the risk of getting sick later.
• Optimal Health: This principle focuses on being the best you can be by preserving the essential elements of life:
• The power of love: It has always been known that love is a powerful healer. Hence, a person should be treated with kindness and dignity.
• The power of prevention: Instead of just treating the symptoms, holistic health spaces focus on disease prevention. It does this by increasing awareness of things (and situations) that can be harmful to a person’s health.
• Innate ability to heal: The body has the innate ability to heal the mind, body and spirit from within. It aims to help a person use these inherent skills and enable the healing process.
• Unique, Specific Treatment: Many believe that traditional medicine uses a “cookie cutter” mentality to treat a health problem that a person who has certain symptoms should only treat those symptoms. Holistic medicine, on the other hand, believes that we are all different and tries to find the best approach for that particular individual as opposed to the best for the disease.
• Live and Learn: For practitioners of holistic medicine, life itself offers many learning opportunities. Birth, death, happiness, sadness, hunger, restlessness, and many other experiences can be learned from them and provide clues on how to deal with (and possibly prevent) many health problems.
• Lead by Example: Rather than discussing the general health benefits, it aims to demonstrate to others by applying the principles themselves and to inspire others to do the same.
